Blind to oppose transit cuts

VOLUSIA COUNTY - A local chapter of the National Federation of the Blind will be in South Daytona this afternoon to oppose public transit cuts that the group says are unfair to the blind. Votran, Volusia County's public-transportation provider, is considering reducing service hours by 12 percent to carve $1.3 million out of its budget. That includes a route that takes commuters from Volusia County to jobs in Orlando. Susan Jacobson, Luis Zaragoza, Iliana Limn, Helen Eckinger, Claudia Zequeira, Gabrielle Finley and Amy L. Edwards of the Sentinel staff contributed to this report. Check out our Day in Pictures photo gallery. Note: Not all stories have active discussions.
